Lugari MP Nabwera Sues Blogger for Ksh.20 Million Over Defamation Claims

According to court documents, Tamata used Facebook pages “Kakamega Post,” “Malava Online,” and “Lugari Watchdog” to post messages on October 3, 2025, suggesting that the MP was involved in the principal’s death

Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has filed a Ksh.20 million defamation lawsuit against Kakamega-based blogger George Opunga Tamata for allegedly publishing false and malicious claims linking him to the disappearance and death of Munyuki High School Principal, Simon Isiaho Shange

Through his lawyers, Danstan Omari & Associates Advocates, Nabwera lodged the suit at the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court under a certificate of urgency. He is seeking orders compelling the blogger to delete the alleged defamatory posts, issue a public apology, and compensate him for damages

According to court documents, Tamata used Facebook pages “Kakamega Post,” “Malava Online,” and “Lugari Watchdog” to post messages on October 3, 2025, suggesting that the MP was involved in the principal’s death

The posts allegedly claimed that Shange “vanished after defying an MP” and urged Nabwera to “come clean on the death of this teacher”

Nabwera says the statements were false, malicious, and politically motivated, painting him as a murderer and inciting threats against his family

“The publications have rallied unknown people who have threatened to plunder my home in Lugari,” he stated in his affidavit, adding that the posts were designed to destroy his reputation as a public leader

He further noted that despite serving a demand letter through his lawyers on November 8, 2025, the blogger has neither responded nor retracted the claims

The legislator attached screenshots of the posts, the demand letter, and messages allegedly inciting attacks on his home

Nabwera also acknowledged the recovery of the late principal’s body from River Kipkaren and extended his condolences to the family, urging patience as investigations continue

In his suit, the MP seeks a permanent injunction barring the blogger from publishing further defamatory material, a public apology, and Ksh.20 million in general damages for harm to his reputation
