Kenya Power has awarded contracts worth Ksh.3.5 billion to businesses owned by youth, women, and people living with disabilities (PWDs) in the financial year ending June 30, 2025

The awards fall under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) framework, which requires public entities to allocate 30 percent of their procurement budgets to these groups

The 2024/25 allocations mark a significant increase from Ksh.614 million awarded in the previous financial year

During the period, youth-owned enterprises received the largest share at Ksh.2.2 billion, followed by women-owned businesses at Ksh.1.25 billion, while PWD-owned enterprises secured Ksh.66.7 million

Kenya Power’s General Manager for Supply Chain and Logistics, John Ngeno, highlighted plans to increase awareness and training for these groups to better participate in tendering processes

“We have noted that PWDs often lag behind other groups, so we will engage them to understand the challenges they face and tailor solutions accordingly,” Ngeno said

The company noted that the 2024/25 performance is the highest in the last eight years. Kenya Power also intends to collaborate with financial institutions to provide support linkages for these interest groups
