UDA Accuses Gachagua of Plotting Chaos Ahead of Mbeere North Rally

Mbarire further alleged that the mobilised youth were issued with UDA-branded T-shirts in an attempt to implicate the ruling party and its candidate, Leonard Muthende, should unrest occur

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has lodged a formal complaint at Ishiara Police Station, accusing Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua and his allies of orchestrating plans to disrupt Sunday’s opposition rally in Mbeere North

UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, speaking moments after recording the statement, said the party received credible intelligence on Wednesday night pointing to a coordinated scheme to ferry hired youth from outside Mbeere North and Embu County to provoke violence during the rally

The event is expected to be led by Gachagua in support of Newton Karish, the DCP candidate in the hotly contested by-election

Mbarire further alleged that the mobilised youth were issued with UDA-branded T-shirts in an attempt to implicate the ruling party and its candidate, Leonard Muthende, should unrest occur

She revealed that the party has provided police with names of individuals said to be coordinating the mobilisation from areas such as Sagana, Kirinyaga, Kayole, Ruiru, and parts of Nairobi

“For the last one month, Mbeere North has enjoyed peaceful campaigns. It is unfortunate that Gachagua and his allies are plotting to disturb that peace. We do not support any form of violence… violence begets violence, and you can never win through it,” she said

Mbarire also distanced the party from a viral video showing a few UDA supporters issuing threats ahead of Gachagua’s visit, clarifying that those remarks were personal views and not reflective of UDA’s official position

UDA legal counsel Adrian Kamotho questioned DCP’s involvement in the by-election, arguing that the party lacks legal standing in the constituency

“The DCP party has no mandate in Mbeere North politics. They have not signed the election code of conduct since they have no candidate. They should stop orchestrating plans to cause chaos,” he stated

Security agencies are now expected to address the allegations and ensure peace during Sunday’s scheduled rallies, which come amid rising political tension in the constituency
