PS Sing’Oei Outlines Diplomatic Priorities to Newly Appointed Envoys

Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, has met with newly appointed ambassadors and consuls general ahead of their deployment to Kenyan missions abroad, urging them to align their work with the country’s updated foreign policy priorities
The luncheon, held on Friday, January 16, in Nairobi, brought together envoys designated to postings across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East
Addressing the diplomats, Dr. Sing’Oei congratulated them on their appointment by President William Ruto, noting that their deployment comes at a pivotal moment in Kenya’s diplomatic engagement

He highlighted that the recent parliamentary approval of the Kenya Foreign Policy 2024, through Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2025, provides a clear and unified framework to guide Kenya’s international relations
The Principal Secretary emphasized that rapid global changes including economic, social, cultural, and political shifts have increased the importance of diplomats
He encouraged the envoys to go beyond merely understanding policy documents and to translate Kenya’s foreign policy priorities into mission-specific strategies that respond to both local and global realities

Dr. Sing’Oei also called on diplomats to actively advance Kenya’s development agenda, stressing the growing role of innovative financing mechanisms, including blended finance, in strengthening economic diplomacy, attracting investment, and deepening international partnerships
He further highlighted the importance of citizen-centric diplomacy, noting that Kenyans living abroad expect leadership, professionalism, and responsiveness from their missions. Heads of mission were reminded of their personal accountability for results, prudent management of public resources, and compliance with government policies
Dr. Sing’Oei assured the envoys of the ministry’s full support, underlining the need for open communication, timely reporting, and close collaboration between missions and headquarters to effectively deliver Kenya’s foreign policy objectives
