The government has declared a firm “zero tolerance” stance on political violence, with Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo warning that hooliganism, intimidation and disorder will not be tolerated as Kenyans exercise their democratic rights

In a statement dated Sunday, March 1, 2026, Omollo emphasized that while every Kenyan has a constitutional right to freedom of expression, such rights must be exercised within the confines of the law. He stressed that incidents involving violence or unlawful mobilisation would be addressed through proper investigative and legal channels

“This administration reaffirms its position that hooliganism and disorder will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and security agencies remain vigilant in ensuring accountability and maintaining public order,” Omollo said during a visit to Rutune School in Nyeri County

Omollo noted that national government administrators in Nyeri, led by County Commissioner Josephat Biwot, are intensifying efforts to enhance community safety and curb the sale of illicit alcohol

He called for stronger collaboration between national officials, chiefs, assistant chiefs, village elders and elected leaders to safeguard lives and maintain social cohesion

The PS also raised concern over rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV), urging communities to take collective responsibility in protecting vulnerable individuals

On education, Omollo revealed that he had held consultations with Rutune School’s leadership and education officials, underscoring the need to boost student enrolment and improve academic performance despite adequate teaching staff

He highlighted ongoing national education reforms, including the recruitment of more than 100,000 teachers, construction of over 25,000 classrooms, implementation of the competency-based curriculum, and changes in university funding. He added that Nyeri County currently boasts a 99 percent transition rate from primary school to Junior Secondary School

Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, who also addressed the gathering, encouraged students to remain disciplined and focused, while urging parents and community leaders to actively support educational initiatives

Omollo further outlined key development projects underway in Mukurweini Constituency, including Sh2.9 billion allocated for road construction, modern markets valued at Sh162 million, affordable housing projects worth Sh980 million, and student hostels with a capacity of 3,000 beds

Among leaders present at the event was Wahome Wamatinga, alongside other local officials
