Parliament Allocates KSh2 Billion to Compensate Protest Victims, Says Oburu
“In areas of paying the compensation to those who lost their lives or were injured in demonstrations from 2017, the money has already been allocated by Parliament KSh2 billion,” he said
The ODM leader also pointed to recent appointments as evidence that inclusivity is improving in government positions
“Employment opportunities and inclusivity are already being seen. You can see now we have celebrated a Principal Secretary from Rarieda,” he added
Oburu maintained that critics claiming the 10-point agenda has not been implemented are not being truthful, insisting that tangible steps have already been taken
On the issue of the broad-based government arrangement, Oburu revealed that the ODM party has given him the mandate to lead negotiations with President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
He said a negotiation team is yet to be formed but emphasized that discussions will be conducted on equal terms
“I am yet to form a team to start the negotiations. And Mr President, you said it correctly: when the negotiations start, ODM and UDA will negotiate as equal partners. We are not going there as weaklings,” Oburu said
The developments come amid ongoing political discussions about cooperation between ODM and the ruling party, as well as calls for justice and compensation for victims affected by past political protests
