Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader and former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has officially declared his intention to run for Nairobi governor in the 2027 general election
On Monday, December 1, Kuria unveiled a poster announcing his gubernatorial bid and naming Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa as his running mate
Kuria emphasized that the choice was motivated by shared commitment to Nairobians rather than tribal or party considerations
“Not because of our tribes. Not because of our parties. Because we care for Nairobi. Because we understand what Nairobians are going through. Because we have local, regional, and global networks to fix Nairobi

Because we have many years of combined leadership and managerial experience. Because we are not tribal and because we have what it takes to make Nairobi work again,” Kuria stated
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions across social media. Some Kenyans speculated that Kuria’s bid may aim to split votes for Babu Owino, while others questioned Aladwa’s track record as the former Nairobi mayor
Ahmednasir Abdullahi SC commented: “Moses, weren’t you a presidential candidate? Now you want to run for governor?”
Meanwhile, Kenyan Masterpiece criticized the choice of running mate, saying, “Aladwa is the last mayor of Nairobi; he served 2 years. We Nairobians are still waiting to see what exemplary results came from that period”
Supporters and critics alike continue to debate the potential impact of Kuria’s candidacy on the Nairobi political landscape, with many analyzing how the move may affect Governor Johnson Sakaja’s prospects in 2027
