Martha Karua Calls for Duale’s Dismissal Over Alleged Tribal Remarks

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has called on President William Ruto to immediately dismiss Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over remarks she described as inflammatory and divisive, saying failure to act would be interpreted as an endorsement of ethnic politics within the government.

Speaking during a church service at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) in Kathangariri, Manyatta Constituency, Embu County, Karua accused President Ruto of remaining silent despite what she termed statements capable of undermining national cohesion. She argued that the Head of State has a constitutional duty to ensure Cabinet members uphold unity and avoid rhetoric that could deepen ethnic divisions.

Martha Karua urged President Ruto to publicly distance himself from Duale’s remarks and dismiss the Cabinet Secretary if he is committed to promoting national unity. She warned that continued silence would send the wrong message to Kenyans and could fuel further political polarization.

The former Justice Minister also criticized the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), accusing the commission of moving too slowly in addressing complaints related to hate speech and ethnic incitement. She questioned why the commission had not summoned Duale and called for an immediate investigation into the matter, insisting that all public officials should be held accountable regardless of their position in government.

On security matters, Martha Karua appealed to police officers and other security agencies to remain professional and resist being used for political purposes. She urged security personnel to uphold the Constitution by protecting all Kenyans without discrimination, emphasizing that their loyalty should be to the law rather than political interests.

Martha Karua also referenced the recent Ol Kalou by-election, saying the outcome demonstrated that Kenyans are increasingly determined to defend democracy and protect the integrity of their votes. She cautioned against intimidation, violence and any attempts to interfere with the electoral process ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions following controversy surrounding Duale’s recent comments, which have drawn criticism from opposition leaders and prompted calls for action by the NCIC. The commission has indicated that it is reviewing complaints related to the matter as political debate over national cohesion continues to intensify.
