KRA Declares No Extension for Tax Return Filing Deadline, Warns of Penalties
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has confirmed that the deadline for filing 2025 income tax returns will remain June 30, urging taxpayers to submit their returns before the cut-off date as no extension will be granted.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has confirmed that the deadline for filing 2025 income tax returns will remain June 30, urging taxpayers to submit their returns before the cut-off date as no extension will be granted.
In a statement, the tax authority encouraged individuals and businesses that have not yet fulfilled their tax obligations to file immediately and avoid the last-minute rush, which often results in heavy traffic on the iTax platform. KRA emphasized that the filing deadline is a legal requirement and will be strictly enforced this year.
The authority warned that taxpayers who fail to file their returns by the deadline will be liable to statutory penalties and may also face default tax assessments in accordance with the Tax Procedures Act. It stressed that compliance with tax laws is essential for supporting government revenue used to finance public services and national development.
To assist taxpayers, KRA has expanded its support services by extending operating hours at its customer service centres and providing assistance through the iTax portal, eCitizen platform, WhatsApp, USSD services, Huduma Centres and KRA offices across the country. The agency says these measures are intended to ensure taxpayers receive help before the filing window closes.
Unlike previous years, when filing deadlines were occasionally extended due to technical challenges, KRA has ruled out any grace period this year. Taxpayers are therefore being advised to submit their returns as early as possible to avoid delays caused by increased online traffic on the final day.
KRA has reiterated that filing annual income tax returns remains mandatory for all taxpayers with an active income tax obligation, including those required to file nil returns. The authority says timely compliance not only helps taxpayers avoid penalties but also strengthens accountability and supports the country’s tax system.
