Kenya is actively seeking ethical, experienced, and financially robust mining partners to unlock the vast rare earth mineral deposits in Mrima Hills, Kwale County

Speaking on Wednesday at the Australian Embassy in Washington, D.C., Prime Secretary Musalia Mudavadi emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating only with reputable firms that uphold environmental and social standards while ensuring full land rehabilitation after mining

“Kenya is actively seeking investors with the experience, expertise, and financial strength to responsibly mine our rare earth minerals and unlock their full national value,” Mudavadi said

These minerals are critical for electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, smartphones, and other advanced technologies, making the area one of Kenya’s most valuable untapped resources

Mudavadi also stressed the importance of partnering with firms that can transfer skills, build local capacity, and ensure sustainable extraction of minerals while uplifting local communities

During the meeting with Australia’s Ambassador to the United States, Kevin Rudd, the PS praised Australian mining companies for their century-long experience, strict adherence to national standards, and proven record in community empowerment

Ambassador Rudd welcomed Kenya’s approach, noting that Australian firms are well-positioned to support sustainable and responsible mining practices in the country
