Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has disclosed that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is unwell and was unable to attend the annual Kimalel Goat Auction held in Baringo County
Speaking during the event on Monday, December 22, Ruku told residents that he had been sent by the deputy president to represent him and to participate in the auction on his behalf
He assured the gathering that although Kindiki was absent due to illness, he remained committed to the people of Baringo and the objectives of the event
“I have been sent by your deputy president, who is not feeling well. He asked me to pass his greetings to the people of Baringo and informed me to buy goats for Christmas. Though he is not physically present, he is with you in spirit,” Ruku said
The CS added that Kindiki had contributed funds toward the auction despite his condition, underscoring his support for local initiatives and unity with residents
He further noted that similar goat auction festivals could be replicated in other regions, including Mbeere North in Embu County, in 2026 to promote local livelihoods

During his address, Ruku also highlighted the government’s commitment to food security, particularly in drought-prone regions
He praised President William Ruto for prioritising interventions in counties such as Taita Taveta, Mandera, Turkana, Garissa and Wajir
“We have put in place plans to ensure livestock affected by drought receive adequate feed

The government has sufficient resources to ensure that no Kenyan sleeps hungry due to lack of food,” Ruku said, urging local administrators to promptly report any cases of food shortages for immediate response
Following the announcement of Kindiki’s illness, a section of Kenyans took to social media to wish the deputy president a quick recovery, with many offering prayers and messages of encouragement
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s office has not issued a separate statement on his condition, but assurances from government officials indicate that he is recuperating and remains engaged in national duties through his representatives
