Police Foil Suspected Terror Plot in Nairobi, Weapons Recovered in Safe House

Police have thwarted a suspected terror attack in Nairobi following an extensive intelligence-led operation targeting individuals believed to be linked to the Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation followed months of surveillance, intelligence analysis, and multi-agency coordination aimed at dismantling a network allegedly planning an attack within the capital

Security officers raided a suspected safe house in Nairobi, where they recovered five AK-47 rifles, 20 magazines loaded with 600 rounds of ammunition, six hand grenades, and a Makarov pistol loaded with 24 rounds

Authorities also seized medical supplies and other logistical materials believed to have been assembled in preparation for an operation

Investigators say the cache of weapons and supplies suggests possible plans by Al-Shabaab operatives to stage an attack in the city

“The National Police Service, through specialised units such as the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Special Operations Group, alongside other security formations, continues to maintain heightened vigilance across the city and throughout the country,” the NPS said in a statement posted on X

The service added that it remains alert to emerging threats and is responding swiftly to safeguard the public, critical infrastructure, and key public spaces

Investigations into the suspected terror network are ongoing
