Gachagua challenges ruto to face kenyans at the 2027 ballot
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has challenged President William Ruto to face Kenyans at the ballot in the 2027 General Election, insisting there will be no room for postponing the polls.

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has challenged President William Ruto to face Kenyans at the ballot in the 2027 General Election, insisting there will be no room for postponing the polls.
Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri while hosting DCP aspirants from Laikipia County, Gachagua called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to publicly explain its preparedness for the next General Election.
The former Deputy President said the Constitution provides for presidential and general elections to be held every five years, with the next polls scheduled for August 10, 2027. He urged IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon to engage political parties and other stakeholders and provide a clear account of the commission’s readiness.
Gachagua’s remarks came amid heightened political tensions and concerns over violence at political gatherings. Opposition leaders have accused the government of creating an unstable political environment that could potentially be used to justify delaying the 2027 elections.
The DCP leader dismissed any suggestion that the elections could be avoided and directly challenged President Ruto to face voters.
He maintained that regardless of the political challenges facing the country, Kenyans must be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to elect their leaders in 2027.
Gachagua also urged IEBC to involve opposition parties in its preparations, arguing that political players should have an opportunity to scrutinise the electoral body’s plans and raise any concerns ahead of the polls.
His latest remarks add to his growing criticism of the Ruto administration as the political landscape increasingly shifts towards the 2027 election.
The former Deputy President has also called for opposition parties to unite behind a single presidential candidate, arguing that a united opposition would have a better chance of defeating Ruto in the next election.
Gachagua’s allies have continued to intensify their mobilisation efforts, particularly in the Mt Kenya region, as DCP seeks to consolidate its political base ahead of the 2027 contest.
The political battle is expected to intensify in the coming months as parties position themselves, recruit candidates and mobilise voters ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
