Five Suspected Robbers Lynched After Ksh.1.1M Sacco Heist in Kericho

Five suspected gang members were lynched by an angry mob in Koitaburot area, Soin Sigowet Sub-County, Kericho County, after allegedly robbing a Sacco treasurer of Ksh.1.1 million

According to police, the suspects trailed the treasurer after he withdrew the cash from a bank in Muhoroni before ambushing him. The gang reportedly attempted to escape using the West Valley Sugar Road but was intercepted by residents who responded to distress calls

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at around 10 a.m., when screams from the tarmac road alerted members of the public, who mobilized quickly and cornered the suspects

Police officers arrived at the scene after the mob had already attacked the five men. Authorities recovered a toy pistol resembling a revolver, a walkie-talkie, and fake vehicle registration plates believed to have been used in the robbery. Investigators revealed that the group had been under surveillance for several weeks prior to the incident

Soin Sigowet Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Kisini confirmed the recovery of the items, noting that the toy gun appeared real and was likely used to intimidate the victim. The communication device will undergo forensic analysis to establish its source and usage

The incident has sparked mixed reactions among residents, with some expressing concern over rising cases of mob justice in the region. Others, however, commended members of the public for responding swiftly to the robbery

Police have urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and avoid taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that community safety begins with individual responsibility

The bodies of the five suspects were moved to the mortuary at Kericho County Hospital pending further investigations
