Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi has mounted a strong defence of President William Ruto’s administration, calling on Kenyans to unite behind the Head of State and his development agenda while challenging critics to present a credible alternative.
Speaking at a public forum in Ugunja Constituency, Wandayi took aim at leaders opposing the government, arguing that criticism alone is not enough without offering solutions or alternative leadership.
He questioned those discouraging communities, particularly in Nyanza, from supporting President Ruto, asking them to clearly state who they believe is better positioned to lead the country.
If you tell us not to support President William Ruto, then you must tell us who we should support. The truth is, in the short period we have worked with him, he has demonstrated genuine friendship and commitment,Wandayi said.
The CS emphasised that President Ruto’s administration has made deliberate efforts to foster inclusivity, particularly by reaching out to regions that have historically felt marginalised. According to Wandayi, the government is focused on ensuring that development projects and national resources are distributed fairly across all parts of the country.
He noted that areas which were previously left out of key government initiatives are now benefiting from infrastructure projects, economic programmes and increased political engagement under the current administration. Wandayi described this as a shift toward a more unified and inclusive national development approach.
At the same time, the Energy CS urged residents to support President Ruto’s bid for a second term, arguing that continuity in leadership is essential to sustain ongoing development projects.
He warned that a change in leadership could disrupt progress and stall key initiatives that are already underway.
“We must stand with the president and support his second term so that the development we are beginning to see continues without interruption,” he added.
Wandayi also referenced President Ruto’s political track record, highlighting his support for former opposition leader Raila Odinga during the disputed 2007 elections.
He said the move demonstrated Ruto’s willingness to build political bridges and work across divides in the interest of national unity.
He argued that such actions reflect a broader commitment by the president to bring Kenyans together, regardless of political or regional affiliations, and to prioritise stability and cooperation in governance.
However, Wandayi’s remarks come at a time when the Kenya Kwanza administration is facing growing criticism from opposition leaders and sections of the public.
Critics have raised concerns over the rising cost of living, implementation of economic policies, and what they describe as unmet campaign promises.
Despite the criticism, Wandayi maintained that the government remains focused on delivering its mandate and improving the lives of Kenyans through targeted development programmes and inclusive governance.
