Climate activist Truphena Muthoni has officially completed a 72-hour continuous tree-hugging challenge, setting a new world record and drawing national attention to the importance of environmental conservation
The 22-year-old environmentalist clocked the historic moment on December 11, 2025, at 12:27 p.m. at Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s office in Nyeri Town
Her extraordinary feat marks a major milestone in her ongoing campaign to promote reafforestation and discourage the destruction of forests

Muthoni, known for her unwavering commitment to nature, had previously attempted a 48-hour challenge in February at Michuki Memorial Park in Nairobi
Determined to push the limits, she returned with even stricter rules for her 72-hour attempt no food, no water, and no breaks, all while maintaining constant physical contact with the tree
She was only allowed to move around the tree without releasing her embrace

Speaking in an earlier interview, Muthoni said her mission goes beyond setting records:
“I am doing this to encourage people to fall in love with nature, so that they do not hurt it
I believe conservation begins with love, and that we must nurture a million trees before we plant a million trees”
