Three National Police Reserve (NPR) officers were shot dead on Saturday night after armed bandits ambushed them in Madhi Qarsa Village, Chari Ward, Merti Sub-County, Isiolo County
According to Merti Deputy County Commissioner Michael Kioni, the officers were guarding livestock when the attackers believed to have crossed over from neighbouring Samburu County struck
Kioni said the officers had earlier been advised to retreat for their safety, but the bandits trailed them and staged the deadly ambush when the officers stopped to prepare tea
He assured residents that security agencies are working to restore calm and prevent further attacks in the area

The incident comes just a day after three people were killed and several others injured in a separate attack in neighbouring Meru County, raising fresh concerns over escalating insecurity in the region
