Three fishermen were killed and another survived with injuries after their fishing boat collided with a ship on Lake Victoria near Remba Island in Suba North, Homa Bay County
The deceased Fredrick Odhiambo, Pascal Oluoch, and Wickliffe Mino were all residents of Sindo Main Beach in Suba South. The group had gone for an overnight fishing expedition when tragedy struck late Wednesday night
According to Edward Oremo, the chairman of the Homa Bay County Beach Management Unit (BMU), the fishermen had cast their nets and fallen asleep when a ship travelling from Uganda to Kisumu rammed into their vessel

The collision tore the fishing boat into three parts
“The section of the boat carrying the three fishermen sank, and they drowned because they were unable to swim,” Oremo said
The sole survivor reportedly clung to another section of the broken boat until fellow fishermen arrived and rescued him
Oremo also suggested that the ship may have failed to switch on its headlights, preventing the fishermen from detecting its approach
