Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has defended President William Ruto, stating that he currently has no formidable opponent capable of challenging him in the 2027 General Election
Speaking during an interview on TV47 on Wednesday, December 3, Passaris said President Ruto’s performance and development record place him far ahead of opposition leaders who are still attempting to form a united front
Passaris highlighted key achievements by the Kenya Kwanza administration, including the recruitment of over 100,000 teachers, ongoing health reforms under the Social Health Authority (SHA), food security programmes, and youth empowerment initiatives through the National Youth Service (NYS). She argued that these efforts demonstrate a government committed to addressing citizens’ needs

“With the kind of work the president is doing for this country, there is no worthy opponent right now to take down William Ruto. And why would you want to take down somebody who’s performing?” she said
The Nairobi MP further pointed to progress in housing, infrastructure, and job creation, saying these accomplishments give the president a strong advantage heading into the next polls
Passaris was particularly critical of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who has been floated as a potential opposition candidate for 2027

She dismissed his chances, citing Wiper’s poor performance in Nairobi during the 2022 General Election, where the party secured only one MP seat despite being part of the larger Azimio coalition
“If you look at Nairobi alone, Wiper had only one MP. This is the capital city. With such numbers, how do you expect to challenge a performing president nationally?” she posed
Her remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are pushing for a broader coalition to challenge President Ruto. However, Passaris maintains that none of the current contenders match the president’s political momentum or development track record
