ODM Youth Leader Kasmuel McOure Warns Critics of Oburu Oginga’s Leadership

In a statement shared on Tuesday, November 18, McOure said that attacks on Oburu’s suitability were, in effect, direct assaults on the late former prime minister Raila Odinga’s long-standing decisions regarding the party’s future

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader Kasmuel McOure has issued a stern rebuke to politicians questioning the competence of newly installed party leader Oburu Oginga, insisting that the party’s youth wing will firmly defend his leadership

In a statement shared on Tuesday, November 18, McOure said that attacks on Oburu’s suitability were, in effect, direct assaults on the late former prime minister Raila Odinga’s long-standing decisions regarding the party’s future

“An attack on Oburu Oginga’s leadership of the ODM is an attack on Baba’s judgement and on the party structures he carefully built over the years,” McOure stated

He added that Oburu’s elevation was a product of deliberate decisions by Raila Odinga and not a coincidence, declaring: “He remains our leader, and we shall defend him as fiercely as we defended His Excellency Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga”

McOure further alleged that a faction of well-funded legislators and influential political actors was attempting to manufacture a narrative aimed at undermining Oburu’s authority. He asserted that ODM youth would resist any attempts to force the Siaya senator out of the party helm

“A new faction of cunning legislators and influential actors is spending heavily to manufacture an ODM narrative trying to change and erase his leadership

We shall recognise no other centre of authority in this party. No amount of money, bullying, or cynical invocation of ‘reform’ will move us,” he said

According to McOure, Oburu has successfully stabilised the party following his brother’s death and has steered it toward inclusivity and unity during a politically turbulent period

He accused individuals close to President William Ruto’s administration of meddling in ODM affairs

“He has steadied the Chungwa ship and redirected it toward inclusivity and the consolidation of gains at a time when others were issuing ultimatums and plotting their own paths

Regardless of your proximity to power, on matters Chungwa, allow our party leader to execute his mandate,” he remarked

McOure urged ODM members to maintain discipline, describing it as the foundation that built the party and the key to safeguarding its future
