Tinderet parliamentary aspirant Shadrack Maritim, who went missing after leaving his home for a morning jog, has been found alive in Mbale, Uganda
Maritim’s disappearance had previously raised alarm, with his family linking it to National Police Service Commission (NPSC) Chief Executive Officer Peter Leley
According to the family, Leley had threatened Maritim in 2023, warning him in a WhatsApp message that he would “show him hajui” if he continued criticizing him

A week before Maritim resurfaced, his family had filed a petition urging authorities to investigate what they termed an “abduction.” On Tuesday night, Maritim reportedly contacted his relatives, saying his alleged abductors had abandoned him near Mbale
The family’s lawyer, Kibe Mungai, said Maritim sounded frightened during a call with his brother
The High Court has scheduled the matter for mention on December 10, 2025, and directed Mungai to submit a detailed affidavit outlining the circumstances of Maritim’s disappearance

“The petition won’t stop just because he has been released. We will pursue this to its logical conclusion,” Mungai said, noting concerns over a pattern of missing Kenyans reappearing near the Uganda border ahead of habeas corpus hearings
Maritim went missing on October 27 after leaving his home in Unity Gardens Estate, Eldoret. His family continues to seek clarity on the events surrounding his disappearance, despite his reappearance
