Malala vows allegiance to sifuna, says gachagua ready to back his presidency

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has declared his support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s potential bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has declared his support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s potential bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a Linda Mwananchi meeting in Kakamega County, Malala pledged to stand with Sifuna and urged Western Kenya’s youth to rally behind the Nairobi senator.

Malala said he believes Sifuna has what it takes to lead the country and called on young leaders from the Luhya community to unite behind his presidential ambitions.

He further claimed that DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua had sent him to deliver a message regarding his position on Sifuna’s presidential bid.

According to Malala, Gachagua is ready to work with and support Sifuna if he emerges as the opposition’s consensus candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Malala also responded to calls by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who had urged him to fully join the Linda Mwananchi movement. He argued that the Luhya community cannot help Sifuna secure the presidency without building alliances beyond Western Kenya.

He emphasized that broad political partnerships will be crucial in securing nationwide support for Sifuna.

Malala’s remarks come as opposition leaders continue to explore possible alliances and strategies ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

The declaration also points to a potential political partnership between Gachagua and Sifuna, despite their previous political differences.

Gachagua has previously indicated that he would be willing to support Sifuna if he becomes the opposition’s consensus presidential candidate.
