A routine hike at Mt Longonot on Saturday turned into a dramatic rescue after a visitor, Bildad Simiyu, fell into the volcano’s crater, landing on a narrow rock ledge far below the rim
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers, in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross, Nakuru Fire Brigade, Kenya Police, and ITARC Hospital personnel, conducted a carefully coordinated rescue that lasted several hours
Simiyu, who fractured his left leg in the fall, was stranded overnight as rescuers maintained constant communication and monitored his condition from the crater rim
The operation resumed at dawn, and he was safely brought to the top around 3 PM. He is currently stable and receiving treatment at Naivasha County Referral Hospital
