Kisumu County has confirmed its first case of MPOX, prompting health officials to issue an urgent public health alert as surveillance intensifies across the region

According to Dr. Ganda, the man travelled from Busia to Kisumu on Tuesday, November 19, aboard a Simba Coach bus that departed at 7:00 a.m. and arrived at around 10:00 a.m

The patient was admitted to the Kisumu County Referral Hospital the same day and placed in isolation. Health officials say he is in stable condition as he continues to receive treatment
Dr. Ganda urged all passengers who were aboard the same bus within the stated period to seek immediate medical evaluation should they experience any symptoms associated with MPOX

He added that four close contacts of the patient have already been identified and placed under observation
Meanwhile, the county has heightened surveillance in all health facilities to support early detection and curb any potential spread of the virus
