Kenyans React After Pastor Kanyari Leaks Old Chats with Ex-Wife Betty Bayo

Pastor Victor Kanyari has stirred online debate after releasing a series of private conversations with his ex-wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo

The screenshots, some dating back to 2022, were shared on Wednesday, December 19, and immediately sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media

The leaked chats show Bayo updating Kanyari about their children’s needs, including school fees, uniforms, and shoes for their son Danny, which she said cost KSh 3,500. In several instances, she asked whether he had sent the money and reminded him of pending purchases

The screenshots also revealed missed calls from Bayo as she followed up on their children’s welfare. Another message asked Kanyari to attend their daughter Sky’s school meeting since she would be unavailable

The posts ignited public criticism, with blogger Martha Miano faulting the pastor for ignoring Bayo’s messages


“Men, if the mother of your children has to go through this for you to pay fees, you are a failure,” she wrote. Miano added that acknowledging messages especially involving children was a basic responsibility

She emphasized that mature communication, whether one can provide financial support or not, matters in co-parenting

Other Kenyans echoed similar sentiments, accusing Kanyari of “blue-ticking” his co-parent and sharing private conversations unnecessarily

The controversy continues to attract reactions online as discussions on responsible co-parenting gain momentum
