President William Ruto on Monday announced a major breakthrough in Kenya–Malaysia relations, revealing a new agreement that grants duty-free access for Kenyan agricultural products to the Malaysian market
Speaking during a bilateral meeting at State House with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, President Ruto described the deal as a game-changer for Kenyan farmers, noting that it opens new trade opportunities and strengthens economic ties between the two nations
According to the President, the removal of tariffs will particularly boost Kenya’s top exports to Malaysia including tea, coffee, flowers, avocados, and titanium ores

Malaysia, in turn, exports edible oils and fats, chemicals, electronics, agricultural chemicals, and rubber to Kenya
Ruto emphasized that the new partnership aligns with Kenya’s efforts to expand its global market presence and diversify trade partnerships
Beyond trade, Kenya and Malaysia agreed to deepen cooperation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as research and education—areas central to Kenya’s human capital development agenda
Malaysia will support Kenya’s ambitions to grow its semiconductor manufacturing capacity, building on existing initiatives such as those at Kimathi University
“This partnership will help us expand our semiconductor technology and manufacturing capabilities,” Ruto said, adding that the housing projects in Kenya were inspired by successful models in Malaysia and Singapore
