Grief and Protests Erupt at Nakuru School After Grade Eight Pupil’s Mysterious Death

Tension and grief engulfed Moi Primary and Junior School on Monday after a Grade Eight pupil died under circumstances that parents described as unclear, sparking a dramatic protest at the institution
The learner, identified as Moses Joseph, reportedly left home in good health on the morning of the incident. His family says they were later shocked to receive news of his sudden death
“Nilimuamsha asubuhi na hiyo strong tea ilikuwa ready, akavaa na kuondoka,” his mother, Lillian Moraa, recounted, describing the final moments she saw her son before he left for school

According to officials at Nakuru Level Five Hospital, teachers from the school rushed the boy to the facility, but he was declared dead on arrival. Medical staff placed the body in a preservation unit and advised the teachers to report the matter to police and obtain formal documentation
Before the process could be completed, however, the boy’s parents arrived at the hospital and wheeled his body out on a trolley. In a scene witnessed by members of the public, they transported it to the school compound, demanding answers over what had transpired
The body remained at the school for more than an hour as police attempted to calm the growing crowd of distressed parents and residents. Officers later returned the body to the hospital

Parents expressed frustration, saying they had yet to receive a clear explanation regarding the circumstances leading to the pupil’s death
Speaking by phone to Citizen TV, Nakuru County Education Director Victoria Mulili confirmed that her office had received a report on the incident. She said investigations had been launched to establish the cause of death and the events preceding it
Authorities have urged calm as inquiries continue
