CS Ruku Blasts Gachagua Over ‘Divisive’ Mt Kenya Credibility Remarks

Ruku further emphasized that Mt Kenya already has strong leadership under Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, whom he praised as a “globally respected scholar and a man of integrity"

Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programs Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of fueling division in the Mt Kenya region through what he termed as “unfounded and divisive” remarks about the credibility of local leaders

Speaking during an education empowerment programme in Mbeere North, CS Ruku condemned Gachagua’s recent comments suggesting that Mt Kenya leaders lack integrity, calling the statements “uncalled for and unbecoming of a former Deputy President”

“There is no single leader in Mt Kenya who lacks credibility. All our leaders have merit, substance, and serve their people diligently,” Ruku stated while addressing gatherings in Cieria, Kìrie, Kabùbua, and Kanyuambora

He accused Gachagua of hypocrisy, claiming that he associates with the very leaders he now disparages. “Let him not pretend to be the moral compass of the mountain,” Ruku charged. “He walks and dines with leaders whose credibility is questionable, yet he dares to lecture others”

Ruku further emphasized that Mt Kenya already has strong leadership under Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, whom he praised as a “globally respected scholar and a man of integrity”

“Prof. Kindiki is leading Mt Kenya with distinction. The former Deputy President has no moral authority to question those who have worked tirelessly for their people,” he said

The Cabinet Secretary urged Gachagua to abandon “divisive politics” and instead support efforts that promote regional unity and development. “The people of Mt Kenya will not entertain divisive politics anymore. We are focused on unity, development, and progress not empty rhetoric meant to divide us,” Ruku remarked

Ruku made the comments during a series of campaign rallies in Mumìnjì and Evurore wards, culminating in a major gathering at Kanyuambora Stadium within the home area of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti and ex-Attorney General Justin Muturi. Both are backing the United Opposition candidate in the upcoming Mbeere North by-election

Local residents at the event vowed to reject the Opposition candidate, citing Muturi’s previous remarks opposing NG-CDF bursaries. They pledged support for the government-backed UDA candidate, Leonard Wamuthende, in the November 27 vote

Ruku expressed confidence that the ruling coalition would perform strongly in the upcoming by-elections across Mt Kenya, saying, “The people of Mbeere North are intelligent and development-oriented. They know who stands with them, and they will speak loudly through the ballot”

He concluded by affirming that Mt Kenya’s future lies in unity and development: “Out of their love for President William Ruto and his government, our people will continue to back leaders committed to progress”
