The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that rainfall is expected to intensify in several parts of the country beginning Thursday, signaling the onset of a wetter weather pattern.
In a statement released earlier this week, the weather agency indicated that regions likely to experience increased rainfall include the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the South Rift, and sections of southeastern lowlands.

According to the department, the rains may be accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. Residents in these regions have been advised to prepare for possible disruptions, including localized flooding, reduced visibility, and slippery roads.
The forecast comes as Kenya transitions into its long rains season, a critical period for agriculture and water resources. Farmers are being encouraged to take advantage of the expected rains for planting, while also implementing measures to prevent soil erosion.
Meanwhile, the Met department has urged the public to stay updated with daily forecasts and heed advisories issued by relevant authorities to ensure safety during the rainy period.
Authorities also cautioned residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, as heavy downpours over short periods could lead to flash floods.
