The death toll from the devastating floods that struck Kenya on Friday evening has risen to 43, as heavy rains continue to cause widespread destruction across the country
At least 16 counties have been affected, with thousands of families counting losses after raging floodwaters swept away homes, farms, and roads. The disaster has left many residents displaced and struggling to rebuild their lives
In Grogon garages in Nairobi, more than 30 vehicles have remained stranded since Friday after floodwaters flooded underground parking areas. Car owners have been forced to tow their vehicles out while mechanics begin assessing the extent of the damage
One affected vehicle owner, Abdala Weke, said many motorists are facing costly repairs
“We are trying to remove them and fix them. Many have been damaged. Repairing my car may cost about KSh 90,000,” he said

Mechanic Wachira Zakayo explained that repairs may take time due to the severity of the damage
“The cost is high. We ask customers to be patient because these are acts of God,” he said
In Hazina Estate in South B, flash floods swept through the neighbourhood, destroying houses and leaving hundreds of residents homeless
One resident, Angela Penina, said the floods washed away her home and belongings, including clothes for her one-week-old baby
“I have no place to stay. The house was swept away by water and I don’t have clothes for my baby,” she said
A similar situation has been reported in Kinoo, where several homes remain submerged in water, preventing families from accessing their houses. Residents also reported that at least five churches and several schools were affected by the flooding

According to resident Richard Migwi, flooding has become a recurring problem in the area
“Every year we experience flooding here. Today some people cannot even go to church, and many families are trapped in their homes,” he said
Government data shows that the floods have affected more than 10,000 households, with at least 4,845 people displaced and forced to seek shelter in safer areas
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as heavy rains persist across several parts of the country, raising fears that the number of casualties and displaced families could rise in the coming days
