Omollo Rejects Osotsi Attack Claims, Calls Allegations “Baseless Political Talk”

Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has dismissed allegations linking him to the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu, describing the claims as unfounded political rhetoric and urging that investigations be left to the relevant security agencies.

Omollo, who spoke during a televised interview, said the accusations circulating in political circles amounted to “street talk” and should not be used to assign blame without evidence. He maintained that Kenya has established constitutional and investigative institutions capable of handling such serious allegations.

The PS questioned the logic behind the claims, insisting there was no basis for connecting him to the incident. He emphasized that public leaders should avoid making sensational accusations and instead allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their work independently.

His remarks come in response to claims made by Senator Osotsi, who alleged that he was targeted in a violent attack in Kisumu and suggested that individuals within the Interior Ministry could have had a role in the incident. The senator said the attack occurred shortly after he had separated from his aide and claimed he had been under surveillance in the days leading up to the incident.

Osotsi further alleged that the attack may have been politically motivated, linking it to broader tensions involving leaders aligned to the opposition-linked Linda Mwananchi movement. His claims sparked political debate and renewed concerns over the safety of leaders critical of government policies.

However, Omollo firmly rejected any involvement, saying such accusations risk politicising a criminal matter that should be handled through proper investigation channels. He also condemned the attack itself, stating that any form of political violence is unacceptable and should be thoroughly investigated to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

The PS added that no individual or institution should be prematurely blamed before police conclude their investigations. He reiterated that security agencies remain fully responsible for establishing the facts surrounding the incident.

The controversy has drawn attention from other government officials, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also previously urging calm and calling for investigations to be expedited. Murkomen stressed that political leaders should avoid inflaming tensions by making unverified claims.

The incident has added to ongoing political friction between rival camps, with leaders exchanging accusations over rising insecurity and alleged targeting of political figures. Security agencies have since confirmed that investigations into the Kisumu attack are ongoing.
