Police in Machakos County have recovered a consignment of suspected illegal drugs after a suspect escaped arrest during a routine patrol in the Ekalakala area

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Ekalakala Police Station were conducting patrols at Ekalakala Market when they noticed a man carrying a bulky sack under suspicious circumstances. On spotting the officers, the suspect reportedly dropped the sack and fled on foot, managing to evade arrest

A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of items believed to be linked to drug trafficking, including 49 brooms, approximately seven kilogrammes of suspected cannabis, and 25 packets of rolling papers

Police have launched investigations to trace and arrest the suspect and to establish whether other individuals may be connected to the incident

“The National Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and remains vigilant through sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, and swift responses to activities that threaten public safety,” the NPS said in a statement
