DIG Eliud Lagat Imposes Dusk-to-Dawn Curfew in Transmara Following Deadly Tribal Clashes

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Transmara South and Transmara West, Narok County, following escalating insecurity linked to deadly tribal clashes
Speaking on Saturday, DIG Lagat announced that the curfew will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., noting that the affected areas have been declared disturbed zones as security agencies conduct a special operation to restore calm
The directive follows renewed violence that has resulted in civilian deaths and the displacement of thousands of residents
According to the Kenya Red Cross, more than 1,800 people have been displaced in Angata Barikkoi alone within a span of three days
In Transmara West, the curfew will be enforced in Nkararu, while several areas in Transmara South have also been affected
These include Oldonyo-Orok, Siteti, Ololoma, Corner, Ratiki, Isokon, Kerinkani, Kondamet, Olkiloriti, Angata Barikkoi, Kapkeres, Lolgorian town, Mashangwa, and Sachangwan
DIG Lagat further issued a 72-hour ultimatum to individuals in possession of illegal firearms to surrender them voluntarily, warning that stern action will be taken against those who fail to comply

The clashes, which involve members of the Maasai and Kipsigis communities, have led to widespread destruction of property, including the burning of homes. Several people have been confirmed dead as tensions continue to simmer
On Friday, the Deputy Inspector General called on the two communities to embrace peaceful coexistence, while cautioning politicians and individuals accused of inciting or financing the violence that decisive action would be taken against them
Security agencies remain on high alert as efforts continue to stabilize the region and prevent further loss of life
