President William Ruto commended the historic peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda on Thursday, while making a direct appeal to former US President Donald Trump to help address the escalating crisis in Sudan

Speaking at a diplomatic gathering attended by African leaders, global diplomats, and stakeholders, Ruto praised the DRC-Rwanda accord as a crucial step toward ending decades of conflict in the Great Lakes Region

He noted the devastating impact of instability on livelihoods, communities, and regional economic prospects

Ruto specifically acknowledged the role of the United States and Trump’s leadership in achieving the breakthrough

“The progress we celebrate today was made possible by the US’s unique convening power and President Trump’s unwavering commitment to global peace,” he said

The Kenyan president highlighted the connection between peace and economic development, emphasizing opportunities in the eastern DRC and the wider region under the African Continental Free Trade Area

Predictable governance and stable markets, he argued, would attract investment and encourage value-added industries across Africa

During his speech, Ruto briefly faltered as he addressed the ongoing Sudan crisis, a moment that has since attracted attention on social media

“I want to ask you, respectfully, President Trump, in your quest for global peace and solidarity, to support efforts to resolve the unfolding human catastrophe in Sudan,” he said, visibly pausing before continuing

Despite the brief stammer, Ruto’s message highlighted Kenya’s commitment to regional stability and economic integration, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in addressing Africa’s pressing challenges
