Wavinya Ndeti Accuses President Ruto of Insulting the Kamba Community

Speaking on Friday at the traditional wedding ceremony of Pastor Ezekiel Odero and Pastor Sarah in Kikumini, Emali, the Governor said President Ruto had shown “open contempt” for the people of Ukambani by using offensive language during his rallies

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has strongly criticised President William Ruto over a series of demeaning remarks he made against opposition leaders during his tour of the Ukambani region

Wavinya said the President’s comments targeting Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka were an affront to the entire Kamba community, given Kalonzo’s stature as the region’s political kingpin

Speaking on Friday at the traditional wedding ceremony of Pastor Ezekiel Odero and Pastor Sarah in Kikumini, Emali, the Governor said President Ruto had shown “open contempt” for the people of Ukambani by using offensive language during his rallies

According to Wavinya, insulting Kalonzo is equivalent to insulting the community he represents.
“Ruto ameonyesha Wakamba madharau sana. Anakuja hapa Ukambani kututukana sisi; ukitusi Kalonzo ni sisi umetusi,” she said, adding that disrespecting a leader is no different from belittling the people behind him

Wavinya, who was accompanied by Kalonzo Musyoka, Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya, Bishop Muiru and other leaders, warned that the region would not tolerate continued verbal attacks on their political leader

“Arrogance is a terrible thing. I know Kalonzo cannot go to Sugoi to insult Ruto because he is a man of honour… but Ruto comes here to belittle him,” she stated

She also defended her absence from one of President Ruto’s events in Machakos on Friday, saying she could not sit with someone who was “insulting their father

“They think Kalonzo is quiet, that he is a diplomat, so they take him for granted. But the one you are disrespecting is the same one who will come and finish this matter,” she added

Wavinya insisted that any insult directed at Kalonzo would be treated as an insult to the Kamba community at large.
“If you disrespect my community… I have no business with you even if you are the President,” she warned

Her remarks come amid widespread backlash over President Ruto’s language during his four-day tour of the region, where he repeatedly dismissed his opponents as “fools” and “brainless,” despite previously calling for an end to the politics of insults

During his rallies, Ruto criticised his opponents for lacking plans, policies, and intelligence. He escalated the rhetoric in Kitui, using terms such as “wapumbavu” and “wajinga” to describe those questioning his leadership and policies

These comments follow a pattern seen earlier in the year, including in February when he referred to critics of the livestock vaccination programme as “wajinga”

Wavinya’s rebuke adds to the growing concerns among leaders and citizens who say the President’s language undermines the dignity of public discourse and risks heightening political tensions
