The CS oversaw the distribution of relief food supplies in Gachoka (Mbeti South) and Kauraciri (Mavuria), where vulnerable households received bags of rice and beans as part of the government’s emergency response

Ruku said the exercise forms part of a broader national strategy to mitigate hunger and shield affected communities from further hardship

“The Government of Kenya will keep its word. No Kenyan should go to bed hungry,” he said, assuring residents that relief efforts would continue in drought-prone and food-insecure areas until stability is restored

The Cabinet Secretary urged residents of the larger Mount Kenya region to remain united and aligned with government programmes to maximise development gains

He highlighted the role of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in championing development initiatives in the region, noting that stronger collaboration with the national government would accelerate economic empowerment

At the same time, Ruku cautioned against divisive politics, accusing certain leaders of spreading misinformation and attempting to fragment communities for personal interests

He reaffirmed that the administration of President William Ruto remains focused on fulfilling its promises, prioritising food security, social protection and public service reforms as part of its broader development agenda

As the visit concluded, Ruku assured residents that the government would continue monitoring the drought situation while rolling out both immediate relief and long-term mitigation measures to safeguard livelihoods
