Tanker Overturns in Kirinyaga, Police Disperse Residents Siphoning Spilled Petrol

Scores of residents in Kirinyaga County rushed to scoop petrol after a fuel tanker overturned at Sagana along the Makutano–Sagana–Karatina highway on Wednesday afternoon
The tanker, which was travelling from Nairobi towards Karatina, lost control and overturned, spilling large quantities of fuel onto the road
Within minutes, residents flocked to the scene, scrambling to siphon the petrol despite the dangers posed

Police officers were forced to fire in the air to disperse the crowd as some residents continued scooping fuel from the ground while onlookers gathered nearby
The incident caused a heavy traffic snarl-up that lasted nearly two hours as authorities worked to secure the area and restore order

No injuries were reported, and police have urged the public to avoid such risky behaviour that often leads to deadly explosions in similar incidents
