Kenya is mourning the sudden death of Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho, whose passing has sent shockwaves across the political landscape and among residents of Nyandarua County.
The legislator died in the early hours of Sunday, March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at The Nairobi Hospital, according to an announcement by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. He reportedly passed away at about 1:20 a.m., although details about the illness he was being treated for were not immediately disclosed.
Kiaraho, who was 62 at the time of his death, had served as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency since 2013 and was in his third term in office. Over the years, he became known for his steady leadership and dedication to development projects in his constituency, particularly in infrastructure and education.
Leaders from across the country quickly expressed their condolences following the announcement. President William Ruto described the late MP as a humble and visionary leader whose commitment to public service left a lasting impact on the people he served. Other leaders also paid tribute to his calm leadership style and years of service in Parliament.
The death of the three-term legislator has left a significant gap in Nyandarua County’s political leadership and automatically creates a vacancy in the National Assembly seat for Ol Kalou Constituency. In line with Kenya’s constitutional processes, preparations for funeral arrangements and eventual political transitions are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
