Ruto Orders All Learners to Report to School Regardless of Fees or Uniforms

President William Ruto has directed all learners across the country to report to school starting Friday, regardless of whether they have paid school fees or have the required uniforms

Speaking in Meru during the disbursement of funds under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) business support programme, the President instructed chiefs, assistant chiefs, and other provincial administration officers to ensure full compliance with the directive as schools open for the first term

President Ruto said the government has already released Ksh.44 billion in education capitation, insisting that no child should be denied access to learning due to financial constraints

“There is sufficient money for our children to be taught in the first term. Every child, with or without uniform or school fees, must report to school tomorrow morning,” the President said. “I want all chiefs and assistant chiefs to ensure that every child reports to school because we have provided the money needed to educate them”

He emphasized that the transition from primary school to junior secondary school under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) must not be disrupted by financial challenges, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to a smooth transition

As of Wednesday, January 22, the Ministry of Education reported that more than 930,000 learners who sat the 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) had reported to school, out of the 1.13 million registered candidates

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said ministry teams have been deployed countrywide to trace learners who have not yet reported and facilitate their return to school
