Linda Mwananchi Storms Kisumu as Sifuna, Orengo, Babu Lead High-Stakes Rally Amid Tension
The Linda Mwananchi faction is set for a major political showdown in Kisumu County today, Sunday, April 26, as opposition heavyweights led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino take their mobilisation drive to the lakeside region.
The leaders are expected to begin their tour with a church service in Nyaori-Nyalenda before proceeding to KaOwuor Grounds for a public rally where they will address supporters on governance, opposition unity and the faction’s growing national campaign.
The Kisumu stop follows a similar tour in Vihiga County on Saturday, where the team made stopovers in Shamakhokho Market, Majengo Market and Luanda Town, drawing enthusiastic crowds.
Today’s rally comes amid rising political tension, with Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi warning the visiting leaders against using the event to attack ODM leadership or stir divisions in the region.
Atandi accused the faction of attempting to drag the Nyanza region back into opposition politics and cautioned against what he termed disrespect toward senior regional leaders.
Security Assurances Ahead of Major Gathering
Despite the political heat, security agencies have assured the public that the gathering will proceed without disruption. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has pledged full security for the event, saying police are on alert against goon attacks that have recently disrupted public gatherings. He called on organisers and supporters to maintain peace as authorities secure the rally.
Linda Mwananchi Pushes Nationwide Mobilisation
The Linda Mwananchi brigade has in recent weeks raised concerns over alleged politically sponsored disruptions targeting its meetings, demanding action against groups accused of intimidating supporters.
Their Kisumu engagement is part of a broader nationwide mobilisation push as the faction seeks to expand its influence ahead of 2027.
