President Ruto Departs for Angola to Attend Key AU Summits

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the AU–EU gathering will review 20 years of Africa–Europe cooperation, with leaders expected to address shifting geopolitical priorities, funding challenges, and growing security pressures

President William Ruto has left Nairobi for Luanda, Angola, where he is set to participate in two high-level African Union summits

According to State House, the President will attend the 7th African Union–European Union Summit and chair the Second Session of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee on AU Institutional Reform in his capacity as the AU Champion for Institutional Reform

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the AU–EU gathering will review 20 years of Africa–Europe cooperation, with leaders expected to address shifting geopolitical priorities, funding challenges, and growing security pressures

Kenya is also expected to push for enhanced financing of African-led peace operations, stronger counter-terrorism coordination, improved border security, and joint climate action initiatives

President Ruto will further advance Kenya’s economic interests, including the implementation of the Kenya–EU Economic Partnership Agreement and his administration’s transformation plan aimed at transitioning Kenya into a first-world econom

In his recent State of the Nation address, he said the plan would require at least Ksh.5 trillion

In Luanda, the President will also co-chair the AU Institutional Reform Committee and brief fellow Heads of State on progress made in strengthening AU governance, peace and security frameworks, and financial independence

The outcomes of these meetings are expected to shape the next phase of Africa–Europe relations and support Kenya’s strategic development and diplomatic agenda
