Authorities have arrested one suspect and seized narcotics valued at approximately KSh 3 million following a coordinated anti-drug operation in Juja, Kiambu County, as enforcement agencies step up efforts ahead of the festive season

The daytime raid was conducted in the Backstreet area of Kimbo, Juja identified by security agencies as a major drug distribution hub

The operation was jointly carried out by officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), and the National Police Service (NPS)

During the raid, a suspected drug dealer, John Ndungu, was arrested. A second suspect, identified only as Peter, managed to escape and is currently being pursued by police

A search of the premises led to the recovery of more than 4,800 rolls of bhang (cannabis) and 75 sealed sachets of cannabis, all packaged for retail sale

Investigators also seized transaction record books believed to document sales running into millions of shillings, suggesting the existence of an extensive and well-organised trafficking network.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr Anthony Omerikwa said the Juja operation is part of intensified nationwide crackdowns targeting the supply and distribution of illicit drugs during the festive season

“This marks the beginning of sustained operations to dismantle drug networks that continue to harm our communities. We will relentlessly pursue traffickers and their collaborators,” Dr Omerikwa said

He urged members of the public to support enforcement efforts by reporting suspected drug-related activities, noting that community vigilance remains critical in combating narcotics

“Any suspicious movements, unusual activities at odd hours, or unfamiliar traffic in residential areas should be reported. The public can confidentially reach us through the NACADA toll-free hotline 1192,” he added

The seized drugs have been secured as exhibits, while investigations continue to trace the wider supply chain and arrest additional suspects. The arrested suspect is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday to face drug trafficking charges
