Bungoma —Newly elected Chwele Kabuchai MCA Eric Wekesa has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nandi County over a robbery incident he claims is part of a political witch hunt
Wekesa, who clinched the seat as an independent candidate with 6,162 votes (67%) against Ford Kenya’s Vincent Maunda, revealed on Monday, December 1, that he received an official summons from a DCI officer directing him to appear for questioning
The WhatsApp message, which he shared publicly, stated that he was required to present himself to DCI Nandi over a robbery reportedly committed on November 29, 2029, involving the violent theft of coffee berries in Tinderet sub-county a date that immediately raised eyebrows

According to the text allegedly sent by CCIO Peter Ochieng’, Wekesa was warned that failure to honour the summons would result in unspecified further action.
However, the MCA-elect strongly believes the summons are politically motivated and orchestrated by National Assembly Speaker and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula whom he defeated in a fiercely contested race
In a Facebook post, Wekesa accused Wetang’ula of refusing to accept the election outcome and claimed he is being targeted ahead of his swearing-in

“This is outrageous! Why can’t their PL accept he lost? Now he plans to embarrass me and arrest me on the swearing-in date,” Wekesa wrote, adding that he is aware of “six gunmen” allegedly trailing him
He dismissed the robbery allegations, humourously stating that his only association with coffee is drinking it, not farming or trading the berries in question
“Tuliwashinda kwa kura, hii ya DCI pia tutashinda. Mungu yupo,” he added defiantly
The DCI has yet to issue a public statement clarifying the unusual 2029 date in the summons or the nature of the ongoing investigation
