A father from Upper Hill in Nakuru County has shared a chilling account of the moments his daughter was allegedly kidnapped by unknown assailants on Sunday evening, November 30
Onesmus Chege Kamochu said his daughter, Irene Nduta Chege, had recently returned home after leaving her job in Nairobi, where he had also employed her in his business
On the night of the incident, Chege grew worried when Irene failed to answer her phone. At around 11 p.m., a stranger finally picked up the call confirming every parent’s worst fear
According to Chege, the unknown callers admitted they had taken his daughter and threatened to kill her if he failed to meet their demands

Chege said he immediately reported the matter at the Nakuru Central Police Station, before being directed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nakuru. Detectives began tracking Irene’s phone as the family anxiously awaited updates
That same night, the kidnappers demanded KSh 50,000, warning that they would “deliver her head” if the money was not sent. They also sent disturbing proof showing Irene tied up, confirming she was in their custody
“They only communicated using her phone. They never used any other number,” Chege recalled
After intense negotiations, the family sent KSh 20,000 the only amount they had at the time. Once the payment was made, the kidnappers switched off the phone
Early Monday morning, around 6 a.m., the kidnappers contacted Chege again, informing him that they were preparing to release Irene. Hours later, they claimed she had already been freed
“We did not know where she was, but she was luckily found just a few metres from home,” Chege said

Irene was discovered unconscious, appearing weak and possibly drugged. She was rushed to Langa Langa Sub-County Hospital, where doctors examined her for any injuries or signs of assault
The incident comes as detectives continue to deal with increasing cases of kidnapping in the country
In a separate case in Thindigua, Kiambu County, DCI officers rescued a man held hostage by five suspects who were demanding KSh 500,000. The rescue operation was triggered after the victim’s girlfriend reported that a strange man had picked up his phone
Investigations into Irene Nduta Chege’s kidnapping are ongoing as authorities work to trace the suspects and determine what happened during the hours she was held captive
