Matiang’i Fires Up Jubilee Base in Nakuru as Presidential Bid Gains Momentum

Jubilee Party presidential aspirant Fred Matiang’i is expected to commission a Jubilee Party office in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, as the party intensifies its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Jubilee Party presidential aspirant Fred Matiang’i is expected to commission a Jubilee Party office in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, as the party intensifies its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The event, which will also coincide with a voter registration drive later in the day, forms part of renewed efforts by the party to strengthen its presence at the local level as political activities gain momentum across the country.

The Jubilee Party, which is seeking to reassert its influence in national politics, has already endorsed Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 polls. The endorsement is viewed as a key step in reshaping the party’s strategy ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed that Matiang’i’s application to run on the party ticket was unanimously approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC). He also noted that the former Interior Cabinet Secretary was appointed Deputy Party Leader.

“We have received and formally accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,” Kioni said, reaffirming the party’s position.

Matiang’i has recently been vocal in his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, promising major policy and governance reforms should he win the presidency in 2027. He has also dismissed claims of divisions within the United Opposition, insisting that the coalition remains united and focused.

“They are shaking, they have tried to divide us… they were thinking that we would never work together. I have bad news for you. We are going to work together,” he said.

However, competition within the opposition remains evident, with leaders such as Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also expressing interest in the presidency, keeping the race for the opposition flagbearer wide open.

At the same time, voter registration activities are in their final stretch, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reporting over 1.3 million newly registered voters, most of them young Kenyans, ahead of the 2027 General Election.
