U.S. Partners with Global Allies to End Sudan Conflict After Reports of Mass Killings

The United States is coordinating with international partners to bring an end to Sudan’s escalating conflict, the White House announced on Tuesday, following reports of mass killings during the fall of Al-Fashir to paramilitary forces last week

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) recently captured Al-Fashir, the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in Darfur, giving the militia de facto control over more than a quarter of the country

“The United States has actively engaged in efforts to bring about a peaceful resolution to the terrible conflict in Sudan,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said

The announcement came as the International Criminal Court (ICC) began collecting evidence of alleged mass killings and sexual violence in the city

According to the UN Human Rights Office, hundreds of civilians and unarmed fighters may have been killed as Al-Fashir fell

Witnesses report that RSF fighters separated men from women and children before opening fire. The RSF has denied targeting civilians

The conflict, which has displaced millions and destabilized the region, continues to draw international concern as efforts intensify to negotiate a ceasefire and deliver humanitarian aid
