IEBC Kicks Off Four By-Elections to Fill Vacant MP and MCA Seats

The electoral exercise seeks to elect a new Member of the National Assembly for Isiolo South, as well as ward representatives for West Kabras in Kakamega County and Muminji and Evurore wards in Embu County

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially commenced by-elections in four areas across the country to fill vacant parliamentary and county assembly seats

The electoral exercise seeks to elect a new Member of the National Assembly for Isiolo South, as well as ward representatives for West Kabras in Kakamega County and Muminji and Evurore wards in Embu County

Voters began streaming into designated polling stations early Thursday morning. Among those who cast their ballots was Justin Muturi, the leader of the Democratic Party, who voted at Kanyuambora Low Cost Boarding Primary School in Evurore Ward, Mbeere North

The Isiolo South parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Mohamed Tubi, who had been elected in the 2022 General Election. Meanwhile, the MCA positions became vacant after the respective office holders resigned to contest parliamentary seats during the November 27 by-elections

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon assured voters that the commission had put in place adequate materials, technology, and personnel to ensure a smooth process. He noted that election officials had undergone training focused on professionalism, integrity, and proper handling of results

The commission expressed confidence that the by-elections will be conducted in accordance with electoral laws and procedures
