Hiking Trip Turns Tragic as Two Men Fall Into Ragia Falls in Nyandarua

A hiking expedition at Ragia Falls, located within Ragia Forest in Njabini Kiburu Ward, Kinangop Sub-county, Nyandarua County, ended in tragedy after two young men fell into the waterfall.

The incident occurred on Friday evening as the two were reportedly taking selfies at the popular tourist site when they slipped and plunged into the falls.

Search and rescue teams were immediately mobilised and began operations at the scene. However, the efforts were suspended after nightfall due to poor visibility and safety concerns. Authorities said the search is expected to resume on Saturday.

Ragia Falls is a well-known attraction for hikers and tourists, famed for its scenic landscapes, the historic Mau Mau caves, and its proximity to the Sasumua Dam.

The victims are reported to be residents of Kĩhunguru and Rwanyambo villages in South Kinangop. Authorities are continuing to coordinate recovery efforts as investigations into the incident proceed.
