Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has opened the doors of his party to like-minded politicians, signaling an opportunity for ODM members disillusioned by internal conflicts
Speaking at DCP headquarters in Nairobi during a ceremony welcoming elected members from recent by-elections, Gachagua encouraged leaders facing potential ouster from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to consider joining DCP or other parties within the United Opposition coalition
He criticized President William Ruto, alleging that his influence following the death of ODM founder Raila Odinga threatens to weaken the party’s political clout nationwide
“If you allow ODM to be sold to Ruto, Junet Mohamed, and Gladys Wanga, you will become a minority party,” Gachagua warned

While Junet Mohamed and ODM national chairperson Gladys Wanga have pledged support to Ruto until 2027, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino have resisted aligning with the government, leaving them vulnerable to party reprisals
Gachagua extended a public invitation to both leaders: “Edwin Sifuna, if William Ruto ousts you, you are welcome to DCP. Babu Owino, if you are ousted, this is your home”
He emphasized that DCP welcomes leaders from any ethnic or political background who share its values

The DCP leader expressed confidence that ODM could lose substantial support if the alleged takeover by Ruto proceeds
He also touted the party’s success in the recent by-elections, where DCP secured three MCA seats: David Wanyoike Warui in Kariobangi North Ward, Douglas Makonde in Narok Town Ward, and Aduda Okwiri in Kisa East Ward
Gachagua concluded by asserting that the United Opposition remains committed to winning all elective seats in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 General Election
