Former Mathioya MP Francis Njakwe Githiari Arrested Over Alleged KSh6.4 Million Land Fraud Case

Former Mathioya Member of Parliament Francis Njakwe Githiari is under investigation after being arrested over allegations of defrauding a couple of KSh6.4 million in a suspected land scam involving a disputed property deal in Ngong.

According to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Francis Njakwe Githiari allegedly engaged the couple in a transaction where he presented himself as both the landowner and contractor for a construction project on the parcel of land.

Investigators say the agreement involved the purchase of land and construction of a double-storey house, with the total project cost reportedly set at about KSh40 million, payable in instalments.

The complainants are said to have already paid KSh6.4 million before doubts emerged about the legitimacy of the ownership documents and the true status of the property.

Trouble began when the couple allegedly discovered that the land was subject to competing claims, with other parties asserting ownership and even filing legal action over the same parcel. This raised suspicion and prompted them to halt further payments and report the matter to authorities.

Following investigations, detectives concluded that the former MP may have obtained the money through false pretences. A file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges against him.

He was arrested at his residence in Karen and is being processed for arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts as investigations continue.

The case adds to a growing number of land-related fraud investigations in Kenya, where authorities have repeatedly warned the public to verify ownership documents and conduct due diligence before entering into property transactions.
